The Design Brief
‘Ard na deirge’ is an exclusive development set in the hills of Killaloe Co Clare overlooking the lakes. To complement the picturesque setting, architects and developers Gallagher Brothers have designed a development of stunning detached and semi detached homes in a blend of natural stone and Bradstone.
The development is still in construction phase with 4 dwellings completed to date.
Each house incorporating Bradstone is finished with a Weathered Cotswold front elevation including bay window and return end detail on the corners.
Feedback to date from customers has been very positive with many preferring the Bradstone finish to that of natural stone. Site Foreman Dessie O’Brien had worked with Bradstone previously
Products Involved
The Ard na deirge site will be a mixed development of natural limestone and Bradstone Weathered Cotswold Masonry Block and return ends; each of the 45 detached homes will be faced with natural limestone and the 45 semi detached houses will have a Bradstone front elevation.
Customer Feedback
Dessie O’Brien, Site Foreman
Dessie O’Brien, Foreman at the Ard na Deirge site had worked as a stone mason for over 40 years before working with Bradstone at the Ard na deirge site “We had looked at the possibility of using cladding but we found Bradstone a more natural looking finish…its working out really well on site and most importantly, it looks good”. Dessie feels that it was important they pointed all joints when building Bradstone, including the false joints
“We pointed with a dry mix which is traditionally used for pointing natural stone, we felt this added to the finished appearance of Bradstone leaving a natural stone look.
We feel the clients will find the appearance of Bradstone as good as the natural stone also used on site”
